Benjamin, better known as “Ben J” of the New Boyz, was born, October 13, 1991, in Los Angeles, California. He began rapping as a young child, and always visualized himself as being famous. When Earl would get into trouble at home, his mother would often send him to his room to write a rap about his feelings, who knew that this would be a form of training to bring him where he is today. Earl is the oldest of three younger siblings. Growing up without his father, Earl’s mother saw the importance of bringing a strong role model into his life. His mother married in 2003, and together they brought a strong family unit, that Earl desired since he was a child. His mother’s main purpose for supporting Earl’s dream for music was to keep him out of trouble.

Earl began his stay in the High Desert in 2005.


Dominic Thomas, better known as “Legacy” of the New Boyz, was born, October 12, 1991, the older of 2 younger siblings. Despite growing up without his biological father, Dominic gained strong support and guidance from positive family and friend role models his mother brought into his life. His grandfather, who died when Dominic was 10 years of age, was one of his strong role models who showed him what it meant to be a leader. Dominic was raised by both his mother and grandparents. He grasped on to his families creative love for music and leadership. He would spend countless hours reading, drawing and writing poems. As early as age 4 years, Dominic would often sneak passed his bedtime just to read. Interested in rap, Dominic began writing and making beats on his computer. His love for reading and writing brought him into a new found dream for music, in which he expresses today in the New Boyz.

Dominic began his stay in the High Desert in 2003.


Together Dominic and Earl began their friendship in 2006. They became best friends after an argument that usually would keep individuals apart. Basically, they did not like one another. After discussing their differences, they realized that they had more in common than they ever imagined. Their birthdays are only one day apart, with Dominic being the oldest. They had an enormous love for music, had a similar family background, and basically loved to have fun. Their similar interests not only brought them closer as friends, but allowed them to see that their talents together could bring a change to their community, and strong positive impact to their teen culture and beyond.
