blog post New DJ Food 1000 MASKS mix
Posted in Music on May 28, 2008 at 8:22 PM
The 1000 Masks Mix from Dj Food is up!
This is a long mix which features all the tracks (except for 3) from the upcoming album "You Don't Know - Ninja Cuts"

The latest “Ninja Cuts” is number five in a series of classic compilations which have studded Ninja’s 18 years of existence. And, like its predecessors, “You Don’t Know” serves as a signpost of both where the label has come from and where it’s heading. Its fair to say most of this compilation contains rare, alternate and brand new tracks. More than anything else, what “You Don’t Know” shows is the breadth of Ninja’s releases, the sheer ambition and diversity of the music being put out through the imprints of Ninja Tune, Big Dada and Counter.

Pre-order from the Ninja Tune Shop!

It was another crazy event in Montreal at the end of September, this time we got a huge yacht and took it out with 800 people and blasted music in the river 11 pm to 3 am. Those who were there already know... full on ninja pirate party... if you missed it, check the videoyo! ARRRRRRR!!!
You know how we do... featuring our new artists THE BUG with FLOWDAN, and GHISLAIN POIRIER. Of course the all the other local ninjas were on the boat dropping heavy bass and hits as well: Amon Tobin, Kid Koala, Ghostbeard, LUV, and Tashish...

St. Jean Baptiste day is always a lot of fun in Quebec but when Sixtoo and Ghislain Poirier roll up and set up shop in a van under the Van Horne overpass in Montreal it is even more fun. Then the cops come and there's really nothing they can do except watch because after there's about 1500 people there, it's too late... "Better just let the kids play this one out," they said. Sixtoo and Ghislain Poirier are going on tour pretty soon, so stay tuned... and here you can watch the video of the event at the viaduct

blog post dj KENTARO on TV ASAHI

Turntablism anyone? Does it seem like everyone and their mother is a DJ? Well, this kid was born to be one. If you don't know about him yet, you will. Check out his bio here. To summarize, DMC World Champ DJ Kentaro scratches and cuts better than a mad cat in your bathtub.
The ENTER THE NEWGROUND WORLD TOUR 07 is underway. Tokyo Ebishu Liquidroom put a huge split screen projection over an elevated stage and DJ Kentaro let loose. Watch his ninja hands go cut crazy live in Japan (on TV ASAHI, also featuring the Pharcyde, Little Tempo, Fat Jon, Hifana, and more!!!)

The Cinematic Orchestra - Ma Fleur

Dealing with themes of loss and love - and in itself representing a kind of absence - "Ma Fleur" is fertile ground for Swinscoe's brand of music-making, for while people have talked about what he does in terms of jazz, the truth is that the basis of his music has always been in raw emotion. From the achingly beautiful opener "To Build A Home" to the finale, "Time And Space," this is an album which reaches for and finds a truth and honesty far beyond what we would normally expect from such a record, but without losing any of the accessibility which made TCO popular in the first place. If the mood is melancholy, Swinscoe and the musicians he works with manage to make it an ultimately uplifting experience, perhaps in the end more about the love you find than the love you lose…

'Ma Fleur' is now available to pre-order. Released as a 2 x LP Ltd Edition (includes heavyweight vinyl, 11 artwork photograph card inserts & laminated box), 2xCD Ltd Edition (same as the vinyl), CD and MP3 bundle.
