"NANA's" Success Is Incomparible.
Sales for the manga have reached far above 17 million copies in Japan. Taiwan has also sold over 150,000 copies of "NANA." Author Ai Yazawa hopes that the movie will be able to reach out to non-readers of "NANA," as well as the already increasing population of "NANA" fans. This "Queen of Shoujo Manga" artist already had one of her novels, "Kagen no Tsuki," filmed into a movie in 2004 (starring Hyde, Chiaki Kuriyama, and Hiroki Narimiya).
The featured star of the movie is Mika Nakashima, who already has an impressive list of accomplishments: Her singles have sold over a record of 600,000 copies; She received the Golden Disk 2002 Award; Japan's Best New Artist Award; etc. She has made her place among the most elite of Asian artists. Bestowed with a beautiful voice as well as a beautiful face, Mika Nakashima is the perfect candidate to play the role of Osaki Nana, who is the lead singer of the rock group, "Blast."
Aoi Miyazaki will be playing the role of the other Nana, also known as Hachi. Her character is described to be very naiive and has a habit of falling in love at first sight, which is no challenge to a seasoned actress like Aoi Miyazaki. Male characters in the movie will be played by Hiroki Narimiya, Ryuhei Matsuda, and Tetsuji Tamayama.

地元の女子高を卒業して２年。ごく普通の家庭に育った20歳の小松奈々が、今、新幹線で向かおうとしている先は東京だった。奈々がなぜ東京を目指しているのかというと、それは高校を卒業した後、1年間通った美術系の専門学校で知り合った大好きなカレ・遠藤章司に会うこと。１年前、美大を目指して上京した章司は、一浪してこの春、晴れて合格した。再会を目指してせっせとバイトをしてお金を貯めてきた奈々は、ようやく章司がいる街で暮らせると思ったのだ。
その奈々が、車中でギターケースを抱えたクールな雰囲気のステキな女のコと相席になった。情熱的な奈々とは正反対の性格の女のコの名前は、大崎ナナ。奈々よりずっと大人びて見えたが、ナナは同じ20歳だった。途中、新幹線が雪で遅れたため、奈々は、同じ名前、同い年という気安さもあって、章司とのなれそめをたっぷりナナに語った。やがて、新幹線は東京に到着。奈々が笑顔で出迎えの章司の胸に飛び込んだ時、もう１人のナナの姿はなかった。
奈々を駅まで出迎えてくれたのは、他に、女子高の時からの親友の早乙女淳子と専門学校時代の友達の高倉京助。奈々は、住むところが見つかるまで淳子の部屋に居候するつもりだったが、淳子が京助と同棲していると知り、あきらめざるをえない。結局、その日は、章司の部屋に泊めてもらうことになった。
翌日、奈々は、章司と一緒に暮らすことを夢見てせっせと家事に励んだ。しかし、章司から部屋探しをしていないことを責められ、未練たっぷりで不動産屋へと向かう。ところが、奈々が不動産屋と一緒に多摩川沿いの古いマンションを内見に行った時、なんと偶然にも別の不動産屋と一緒にやってきたあのナナと遭遇。この物件が気に入った２人の“NANA”は、部屋をシェアして使うことになった。
