[sample singing]
"Woke up this mornin', you got yourself a gun, you got yourself a gun"..

[Chorus]
Yo I'm livin' in this time behind enemy lines
so I got mine, I hope you ("got yourself a gun")
You from the hood, I hope you ("got yourself a gun"
you want beef I hope ya ("got yourself a gun")
And when I see you I'ma take what I want
so you tried to front, hope ya ("got yourself a gun")
You ain't real, hope ya ("got yourself a gun")

[Verse 1]
My first album had no famous guest appearances
the outcome, I'm was crowned the best lyricist
many years on this professional level
why would you question who's better?
the World is still mine, tattoos real
with "God's Son" across the belly, the boss of rap
you saw me in Belly with thoughts like that
to take it back to Africa, I did it with Biggie
Me and 2Pac were soldiers of the same struggle
You lames should huddle, your teams shook y'all feel
the wrath of a killer, 'cause this is my football field
Throwin' passes from a barrel, shoulder pads, apparel
but the Q.B. don't stand for no quarterback
every word is like a sawed-off blast
'cause y'all all soft and I'm the black hearse
that came to haul y'all ass in
it's for the hood by the corner store
many try, many die, come at Nas if you want a war.

[Chorus]

[Verse 2]
I'm the N the A to the S-I-R
and If I wasn't I must've been Escobar
you know the kid got his chipped tooth fixed
Hair parted with a barbers preciseness
Bravehearted for life, it's -
the return of the Golden Child, son of a blues player
so who are you playa? y'all awaited the true savior
puffin' that tropical, cups of that Vodka too
Papi chu', tore up, wake up in a hospital
Throw up? never, 'member I do this through righteous steps
you Judists thought I was gone, so in light of my death
y'all been all happy go lucky, bunch of sambos
call me Gods Son, with my pants low
I don't die slow, put them rags up like Petey Pablo
this is Nasdaq dough, in my Nascar with this Nas flow, reppin'
hit the record sto', never let me go, get my whole collection.

[Chorus]

[Verse 3]
It's - the - return of the Prince, the boss
this is real hardcore, Kid Rock and Limp Bizkit's soft
sip criss, get chips, wrist gliss, I floss
stick shift look sick up in that boxsta Porsche
with the top cut off, rich kids go and cop the source
they don't know about the blocks I'm on
and everybody wanna know where the kid live, where he rest at?
where he shop at and dress at?
know he got dough, where does he live?
is he still in the bridge?
does he really know how ill that he is?
got all of y'all watchin' my moves
my watch and my jewels
hop in my coupe, dodge interviews like that
It's not only my jewels, ice anything, plenty chains
Look at my tennis shoes, I iced that
Who am I? the back twister, lingerie ripper
automatic leg spreader, quicker brain getter
keepin' it gangsta wit' ya

[Chorus]

THE BLUE BOOK OF RAPPERS.

First off you n*ggaz is clowns wit them upside down lists. Ya'll ignorant wit it. Rap is about the overall delivery... So when ya'll make up ya'll lists, ya'll needa factor in the elements below.

1) Style: and that's stops & pauses, pick-ups (flips), metaphors, lexicons, slangs, vocal style, and rhyming words;
2) Enunciation;
3) Story telling skills;
4) Lyrical impact.
5) Originality;
6) Representation/Identification;
7) Vocabulary: capacity;
8) Vocabulary: Intelligence.

Now here is the list so you fools adding Lil' Wayne in there wake the f*ck and learn what rap is...

This is a list starting from the mid ’90, so niggas like Rakim, and EPMD, Heavy D, and even Eric Sermon are not ranked in. The way it's gonna go is we gon' see who picks up more of the elements I mentioned above:

OVERALL DELIVERY: For story telling, vocal style, enunciation, metaphors, originality; lyrical impact, vocabulary: intelligence, rhyming words, representation: (8 elements) – can’t nobody f*ck with 2Pac. Know that! I don’t even need to speak on Pac…

OVERALL DELIVERY: For pauses and stops (flips), metaphors, enunciation, story telling, vocabulary: intelligence, vocal style, lyrical impact, representation: (8 elements) – can't nobody ever f*ck with Nas. Kno that! This nigga perfected and set the standard of East coast rapping for all 90 percent of rappers in the North East. That includes Jadakiss, Jay-z, Papoose, Cassidy, and a bunch of other cats who probably won’t admit it. His one flaw is that once in a while he won't hit you with that rhyming word/sound that you expect; but flips it and hit you with the next rhyme. A cat like Da Game, though, will hit you with that rhyming sound every time, at least on the 8th bar.

OVERALL DELIVERY: For vocabulary: capacity, vocabulary: intelligence, stops & pauses (flips), metaphors, lexicon, enunciation, vocal style: (7 elements) Canibus is king.

OVERALL DELIVERY: For vocabulary: capacity, story telling, metaphors, slangs, rhyming words, originality: (6 elements) – Eminem stands out!

OVERALL DELIVERY: For stops & pauses (flips), vocabulary: capacity, vocabulary: intelligence, metaphors, lyrical impact, representation: (6 elements) – Mos Def holds the banner here.

OVERALL DELIVERY: For enunciation, story telling, vocal style, stops & pickups (flips), representation: (5 elements) – Jay-Z is definitely nice.

OVERALL DELIVERY: For vocal style, story telling, stops & pickups (flips), slangs, metaphors: (5 elements) – Biggie held it down.
OVERALL DELIVERY: For vocal style, lyrical impact, enunciation, stops & flips: (4 elements) – Common is siriusly da biznis.

OVERALL DELIVERY: For vocal style, rhyming words, stops & pause (flips), representation: (4 elements) – Da Game is on point.

OVERALL DELIVERY: For orignality, vocabulary: capacity, story telling, and a category of its own, speed: (4 elements) Twista is your guy!

OVERALL DELIVERY: For representation, slangs, vocal delivery: (3 elements) – Snoop is nice

OVERALL DELIVERY: For vocal style, stops & pickups (flips), rhyming words: (3 elements) – Big Pun and Fat Joe are wassup.

OVERALL DELIVERY: For vocal style, rhyming words, representation, (3 elements) – Ezibit is the shiznit!

OVERALL DELIVERY: For rhyming words, enunciation, vocal style: (3 elements) – Korrupt made the list.

OVERALL DELIVERY: For originality, representation, lyrical impact – (3 elements) Sean Paul (not raggae) is what’s good.

OVERALL DELIVERY: For slangs, vocabulary: capacity: ( 2 elements) – E-40 is sick!

OVERALL DELIVERY: For representation, lyrical impact: (2 elements) – Ice Cube is da man!

OVERALL DELIVERY: For representation, flips: (2 elements) – Dub C. holds a spot.

The list could go on with a gang of 2-element rappers, but we’re looking for the best here… Cats like Jada, Cassidy, and Papoose didn’t make the list because they’’ref all prototypes of Nas and Nas already holds that spot, I’m not hating, though. I got luv for a nigga like Luda, but I didn’t rank him in the list.

Now here is the list of 10 best based on number of elements picked up:

Tupac
Nas
Canibus
Eminem
Most Def
Jay-Z
Biggie
Common
Da Game
Twista

But here is my personal list of 10 favorites

Tupac
Nas
Da Game
Canibus
Ezibit

Jan 18th, 7:50pm
Man let's get this shit straight. Weezy aint on this top 5 list so let's get htis right. I like Nas, but the decline in his later years made me think him as more of a top 10 rapper than top 5. Without a question he's up there and this Got Yourself A Gun record was crazy. But my Top 5 ever: 1. 2Pac, 2. Andre 3000, 3. Notorious B.I.G, 4. Jay-Z, 5. Eminem
