You touched an interesting topic. I've noticed a trend in many uploaded songs on other profiles. I can often hear the differences in songs from hijacked streamcast or the low quality stuff sourced from questionable p2p pools or re-encoded rips from Youtube.

Imeem in its early days used to transcode all uploads to 160 kbps (CBR). Now, Imeem has dropped it further down to a mere 128 kbps That is one of several reason I won't include tracks of dubious origins from people I don't know. Also, Imeem had begun to post music from artistes and we should be confident of their legitimacy. lol

IMHO, it is inane to upload a low quality rip or a re-encoded hijacked streamcasts because Imeem is going to transcode it further down to 128kbps. All audio streams on Imeem are flv encapsulated at 128kbps sampled at 44.1 kHz but I've seen profiles where people describe their songs as "high quality".

The white labels are from the promoters and PR folks and of course not forgetting the regular marketing pipeline.

The songs are mostly singles releases and I very rarely upload any full albums. However, if you need to find out if a song is part of an album release, you can always check out freedb.org, use MusicBrainz Picard or go directly to the artistes' website.
