I was born and raised in St Louis MO. My mom loved a wide mix of music and I was raised listening to music from classic Motown to classic Rock. St Louis has one, if not the oldest rock station still playing music-KSHE 95. I was fortunate to have KSHE to listen to in my teens and early adulthood. I live now in Austin Texas, which claims to be the "live music capital of the world". They have lots of bars on 6th Street but no auditorium in Austin (gotta go to San Antonio to see a big act). I know some prefer a "intimate" arena for music but nothing beats a huge venue like Riverport (now Verizon) like in St Louis (which Guns N Roses helped to destroy back in '91-but thats another story..). Music is the realm which brings us all together.
