More than simply a LOVE song, I think of this as being a LIFE song as well. The fire can serve as a metaphor for different things. When Garth sings this song, I think of it as referring to passion of any kind, not just amore love. Standing INSIDE the fire is to be an active participant in life's happenings, to have the courage to face challenges, opposition, the unknown...To stand ready to keep doing just that, to stand. To take one or make one. To fight for a cause or an idea or against a wrong or injustice. It is doing what must be done regardless of the consequences or outcome.

Last time I commented, I added all of the lyrics because they are so powerful! If you take one verse and study it word for word, it is amazing all the strength and conviction that this song is expounding. It is true grit. For some reason, there are parts of it, or maybe it is just the spirit of the song that makes me think this, but I am reminded of the song "The Impossible Dream." All I know for sure is that I consider this song to be inspiring and encouraging.
