I suppose you're right in saying I can't just make assumptions like that and generalize all hip/hop and rap. Come to think of it...I've listened to a lot of hip hop songs that do really stand for a lot and that speak to a lot of political, social and taboo issues. Tu Pac, Dr. Dre, Common, underground artists from my hometown on the college radio, Cypress Hill, Public Enemy; there's a lot more.

In the post I made earlier, I was mainly speaking about the Top 40 stuff that all my friends just love, so it's not really fair to lump all of any type of music together as I did. There are HUGE differences within a genre, and I was insensitive and bigoted in my approach to the subject. I stand corrected.
