depends on what you want the mixer to do

if you're trying to mix turntables/scratch i would suggest anything by pioneer (usually mega $ unless you can find a deal) if you're budget is lower, numark makes some quality inexpensive mixers.

if you're looking to mix multiple signals (ie computer/amplifers/keyboards) i would look for a multi-track mixer, but if you're just starting out this is probably useless infortmation

if you're also lacking turntables and dough, i would suggest a battle pack, real good way to kick things off.
