THE HOOD INTERNET vs TOBACCO & AESOP ROCK

Tobacco (of Black Moth Super Rainbow) has a new album called Fucked Up Friends dropping on Anticon in two weeks. Aesop Rock is on the track "Dirt," so not only does he appear on the Hood remix of said track, we've also made this whole mini-mixtape (technically a compilation since the songs don't mix into each other) of Tobacco and Aesop with some other special guest appearances. Let's get it

About

Description
In an age of immediacy, The Hood Internet gives the people what they want on a daily basis—even if they don't know they want it yet. Marauding the pop, rap and R&B landscapes like laptop-armed alchemists, DJs STV SLV and ABX (Steve Reidell and Aaron Brink) drop the unlikeliest elements into their pot and make gold—from Dirty South rap to Canadian indie rock to "French Touch" electro to pretty much whatever else you got.

Longtime collaborators and occasional rivals STV SLV and ABX first "met" on the internet, downloading each other's songs and taking occasional shots at each other on wax before joining friends to start Chicago art-pop band May or May Not. The pair staked out www.thehoodinternet.com in spring 2007 and started cooking up full song mash-ups complete with Photoshopped glossies for each title—witness Miami coke-rap kingpin Rick Ross posted up amongst Brazilian electro-rockers CSS, Flo Rida kicking it with the Hot Chip squad, or Ghostface Killah sneering between the guys from Spoon.

When the rest of the internet heard what was going on in the hood, the phone got to ringing, and in the past two years The Hood Internet has tore the roof off all over North America, sharing bills with Diplo, the Hold Steady, the Cool Kids, Wu Tang’s GZA, Matt & Kim, Flosstradamus, Blackalicious, Blaqstarr, Jokers Of The Scene, Kid Sister, and so many more—when not holding it down at South by Southwest, the Monolith Festival at Red Rocks, Canadian Music Week, and CMJ.

With the world wide web on lock—at a million-plus downloads they’re "internet platinum"—The Hood Internet has racked up (as of press time) over 250 original mash-up tracks, three mixtapes including one devoted entirely to bands and rappers from the Hood's home base of Chicago, some straight-up remixes for bands like Blitzen Trapper and El Perro Del Mar, a 10-track collaboration with Bay Area rappers/Vans aficionados The Pack, a 7-song EP melding raps from Aesop Rock and cohorts with the aural wizardry of Black Moth Super Rainbow's Tobacco. All that in only two years' time!
