Let's get one thing clear here. The record NEEDS to set straight on this discussion...
It doesn't matter whether you're a country music fan or not. Frankly I don't care if you're black, white, japanese or all three of these. Only one fact remains: The music speaks for itself. There is NO defining music, now let me say that one more time: THERE IS NO DEFINING MUSIC. What may define how one "good" song relates to another "bad" song, has no relevance. Now, yes, some songs are more melodic and some are more catchy, and then some are in completely different arena altogether. As an aspiring singer/songwriter myself, I find the more and more I write, the more I have more "throw away" songs than "keepers". But I believe that if you have passion and truly believe in what you're writing, then it won't matter. Someone out there is gonna no doubt hate your song, and just because of all these stupid labels that the industry and pop culture has placed on music. I know people that refuse to listen to rap, hip-hop, or R&B and simply because of the label placed on those particular genres...nevermind that they won't even give the song a chance by listening, they're completely and utterly transfixed on what they define as "good" music. And that's fine, people are entitled to their opinions. But there's no doubt in my mind that there will be more people out there who like your song than dislike. AND I will go ahead and be so egotistical and arrogant as to say that this song by Big & Rich is that very ingredient that is missing is most of today's, yesterday's, and probably tomorrow's music. This is an excellent example of what happens when two individuals get together and share that special moment, that for so many us, will never relate to. I watched a video of them on the tour bus as they were writing this song, and if you only knew HALF of what that feels like, you'd never question my integrity on this subject. I could tell, as they were writing, it just flowed. Maybe not perfectly at first, but chord after chord, note after note, it started to take shape. And this is a true example of a "good" song. The structure, the flow, but forget all that: Just LISTEN to the words, the melody, the harmony...the message that is written with so much passion. This is what I strive for and what I will continue to strive for. I'm not saying you have to love this song, but if you do, then you already know why you do. This is art. Music is a form of art, and the songwriters are painters, splattering all these colors onto an empty canvas...and at the end of the day, THIS is the only reason why we do it. We are a very special breed. WE are the songwriters....
Again, thank you Big & Rich for "sticking to your guns" and taking each "mistake" and "success" and turning it into something truly beautiful.

I don't get the fact that some people can't recognize good music. I listen to all kind of music : metal, rock and all that stuff but I can recognize when a music speaks from the heart. Be open minded ,unlike a certain baby *cough* kyle *cough*

I'm not much of a Big & Rich fan, but I absolutely love this song. It is just beautiful.

Note to those who don't like country music: Live and let live. Feel free to say you don't like it; everyone is free to express their opinion. Just don't insult those of us who do like it. For example, I can't stand rap, hip pop, etc. but I don't make derogatory comments toward those who like that kind of music.
