J. Rocc
Stones Throw "Tribute to J Dilla" DJ Set
(presented by Rock Insider, Ice Cream Man and Aquarium Drunkard)One of the original turntablists, J. Rocc founded the Beat Junkies in 1992 with Melo-D and Rhettmatic, but has done just as much on his own as in a group setting. Born Jason Jackson, he began DJing in the mid-'80s with a California group named PSK. Soon after forming, the Beat Junkies became a seminal force in the rise of instrumental hip-hop, including core member Babu plus future stars Shortkut and D-Styles.
The Gray KidThe Gray Kid split from his band in early 2004 and moved to New York City to pursue his solo career. Four months later he was hosting the PLUG Independent Music Awards, sharing the stage with Aesop Rock, Rjd2, Ted Leo, Saul Williams, and Sufjan Stevens. A few weeks after that he was headlining the 2005 XBOX Big Day Out Snowboard Competition in Val D'Isere, France, where he stole the show in front of 10,000 people who discovered what the rest of the world will soon find out - the boy can move a CROWD.
Foreign BornForeign Born began in San Francisco only soon to relocate south to Los Angeles. The band self released their first 12" paving the way for their debut EP "In the Remote Woods" released via StarTime International Records. Before, during and after some US/UK touring with the likes of Rogue Wave, Jason Collette, Cold War Kids, Giant Drag and We Are Scientists, the band recorded their first full length album- "On the Wing Now" to be released in early 2007.
Crash PlasticCrash Plastic is a 4 piece originating from Lompoc, CA. Although the band members span the impressively young ages of 17 to 19, they’ve already begun to carve out a respectable reputation along the west coast scene gracing such well-known indie venues as the Silverlake Lounge.
