IMEEM and LIVE 105 Partner for Not So Silent Night 2006 Local Band Contest
Aaron Axelsen of Live 105's Soundcheck and imeem's social media community will select an undiscovered talent to open for The Killers, Modest Mouse, and The Raconteurs.

PALO ALTO, Calif. (PRWEB) November 10, 2006 –- imeem, inc., the leading next-generation online network for social media, has partnered with LIVE 105, the San Francisco Bay Area's leading alternative rock station to host the 2006 LIVE 105 Local Band Contest. The winning band will open the upcoming Not So Silent Night 2006 on December 8th at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, featuring the hottest bands in alternative rock: The Killers, Modest Mouse, The Raconteurs, The Shins and Silversun Pickups.

LIVE 105 and imeem are calling all local bands to register for the contest on the LIVE 105 imeem community site from now until November 15th. Competing bands will then submit their song entry by attending LIVE 105's Music Industry Panel at the Ex'pression College for Digital Arts in Emeryville with their demo CD on November 15th. Local artists will not only be entered to win a coveted opening gig at NSSN 2006, but have the rare opportunity to hear valuable advice from a panel composed of editors, agents, record execs, and others in the music industry. In addition, LIVE 105's Aaron Axelsen, who is well known nationwide for breaking new bands and for his popular show, Soundcheck, will narrow the field down to his top 25 bands, which will be featured on LIVE 105's imeem site.

This year, LIVE 105 gives their listeners and imeem users the power to choose the best local bands in the Bay Area. From the 25 selected bands, listeners and imeem users can check out band profiles and demo songs to vote for their favorite bands. The top 5 bands will then get the opportunity to play live for a panel of judges at Café Du Nord on December 4th, which will determine the lucky band to perform at NSSN 2006.

"Both LIVE 105 and imeem support the local music scene like no other radio station or online community site, and we value the opinion of online fans to choose the new music they want to hear," said Steve Jang, vice president of marketing and business development, imeem. "We're very excited to work with Aaron and LIVE 105 to discover up-and-coming bands, and to continue supporting local and indie music."

"Live 105's commitment to the local music scene, which has both included unearthing such Bay Area staples as Green Day and AFI, and also supporting such acclaimed homegrown acts as The Lovemakers, Rogue Wave, John Vanderslice, Birdmonster, Scissors For Lefty and Two Gallants, wraps up the 2006 campaign with our annual NSSN local band contest; an incredible opportunity for one up-and-coming local act to be propelled into the limelight and open-up our seminal holiday concert! And we're excited to have imeem on board to help produce this epic local music event! They've got a great new online community for indie artists and their fans, so it's a perfect fit," said Aaron Axelsen, Music Director, LIVE 105.
