PROJECT: The Guardians of Zephyr
The Guardians of Zephyr are eight individuals who have been appointed by God to defend the portal between Heaven, Hell and the living world. For one to become a Guardian of Zephyr, they must die in their past life; this is an act of purification of the soul, cleansing the soul's past sins. The Guardians of Zephyr are guided by protectors called Entities. Entities are holy spirits, and are of the same rank as angels in the 'Celestial Hierarchy, whereas the Guardians of Zephyr are lower in rank. These holy spirits appear in various forms with regards to their specific abilities (eg. Ashley Stone's Entity, Celeste, is the Entity of the Air). Both Guardian and Entity are immortal but a Guardian's immortality can be broken if purification is reversed (eg. loss of virginity in their life as a Guardian).
The Portal between worlds is vulnerable to the forces of evil from Hell: demons. Demons are the 'dark-sided' equivalent of the Guardians of Zephyr, and are protected by creatures similar to Entities, called Guards. Guards are evil spirits and usually appear in the form of an animal (eg. panther, polar bear, hawk). Like Guardians and Entities, Demons and Guards are immortal, but have an eternal immortality unlike that of the Guardians. Demons have two purposes: to destroy the forces that oppose them, and to infiltrate Heaven through the Portal.
The Portal is maintained by members of the Morovski family, who specialise in precognition. Two members of the family are chosen to control the opening and closing of the portal; this allows good and evil spirits who have been trapped in the living world after death to return to Heaven or Hell, however spirits are able to wander through the portals into the living world.
