"No, Mother! I will not wear this!” Wolfram argued looking at the pink dress Lady Cheri had chosen for him. “Won't my usual attire be fine?”
“Because my dear,” Cheri caressed his new daughter's face, “You are now a lady and you must wear what a lady should wear.”
“But I am not a lady! I am a man!” Wolfram insisted.
“Oh? Better take another look in the mirror, Wolfie dear.”
“Mother, please -”
“Oh, come on now. You didn't complain about the nightgown.”
“But - but that was different,” Wolfram defended.
“Come on, Wolfie. Do this for your dear mother. It's not everyday that one of his sons turn into a lady - and such a beautiful lady at that.”
Wolfram took a deep breath, “Very well, I will do this for you, mother.” He grabbed the dress from the bed to get changed.
Cheri headed to the door, “Hurry, everyone's waiting at the dinner table.”
Wolfram groaned and prepared himself for major humiliation that was yet to come.
glitter-graphics.com(Note: Wolfram will still be referred to as “he”. Apologies if it doesn't sound right.)
Everyone was already at the dinner table, but Wolfram, and was talking about what had happened that afternoon. Conrad was shocked at first when he was told about the incident and refused to believe it but when he saw the contraption that Anissina was fixing, he was convinced. “Well, if it's Anissina, you better expect the unexpected,” he said. Everyone was excited to see Wolfram in his girl form, and even the maids couldn't contain their anticipation. Yuuri could hear them giggling at the back.
As the door creaked open, everyone became silent and turned to look expectantly. Wolfram peeked in, his cheeks turning into a shade of red.
“Please come in,” Cheri said, “We've all been waiting for you. We're all eager to see your - uh, transformation.”
“Mother -”
Cheri motioned for Gunter, “Can you please escort my daughter in?”
“Yes, My Lady.”
Gunter practically pulled him from the doorway when he refused to budge. The room was filled with “ooh”s and “aah”s as he stood in front of them, blushing deeply.
“So it is true!” Conrad said as he studied Wolfram.
Yuuri looked at Wolfram with awe. The dress fit perfectly with his full chest, narrow waist and wider hips. “Wow!” he whispered.
Cheri leaned over to Yuuri and winked at him, “I think so too, Your Majesty.”
Yuuri blushed at the comment but continued to stare at Wolfram's stunning figure.
Wolfram glared at everyone, “If - if anyone laughs, I swear I'll - I'll - I'll burn you alive!”
“Wolfram, dear! That's not how a proper lady should behave,” his mother scolded him.
He crossed his arms in front of his chest, “Hmph, whatever!” and stomped off to his seat.
When dinner was served, Cheri turned to her new daughter, “Now that you're a lady, I think we should think of a better name for you.”
“My name is just fine, mother.”
“No, that won't just do. Can you imagine a mother calling her own daughter 'Wolfram'? That's just too… just too - well… manly.”
“I am a man, mother, when Anissina fixes that machine from hell. I don't think that changing my name would be necessary.”
“Oh, come now, dear. Indulge me,”
“No, I won't. I agreed to wear this dress and that's the only thing I will agree to.”
But Cheri wasn't listening. She looked at the dinner table and announced, “So, what name do you think would suit my darling daughter?”
Female names suddenly filled the room.
“Maria.”
“Lisa.”
“Annie.”
“Francine.”
“Rachel.”
Yuuri looked at Cheri who was apparently enjoying every moment of it. Wolfram on the other hand looked like he had steam coming out from his ears.
Suddenly Wolfram stood up, almost knocking down the glasses, “I will not tolerate this!” and then stormed out of the room almost tripping over his dress. He slammed the door with a loud bang as he went out. Everyone cringed.
“Oh, I guess, he's still the same Wolfram as before.”
“You were expecting that he'd be different then, mother?” Conrad asked.
“Well, no, but still,” she sighed as she played with her food. She then turned to Yuuri, “Won't you talk to him, Your Majesty? Maybe… you could change his mind?” she pleaded with puppy-dog eyes.
“I highly doubt that,” Yuuri murmured but he stood up and followed Wolfram out the door.
glitter-graphics.comWolfram was fuming as he went out the dining hall. They have the nerve to do that to me? He thought as he headed to his room to change into more comfortable clothing. How dare they do that! He was already in his room when someone knocked on his door.
“What?!” he snapped sounding irritated.
The door opened and Yuuri stepped in. “Hey.”
“What do you want?”
“Um - well - Uh…” Yuuri scratched his head thinking of what to say.
Wolfram sighed with exasperation as he tossed his uniform onto the bed and started to undress.
“What are you doing?!”
Wolfram looked at him incredulously, “What do you think I'm doing, wimp? I'm going to change.”
“In front of me?”
“Do you want to?”
“Well…”
“Don't be such a pervert, Yuuri. Get out.”
“Then why did you -”
“Get out!”
“No, what I meant was that you shouldn't change.”
“You're not the one who's being forced to wear this.”
“But you look really pretty in it.”
Wolfram looked away, “Don't make fun of me, Yuuri,” sounding hurt.
He shook his head, “I'm not making fun of you. You really look very pretty in it, Wolf. Honest.”
Wolfram studied Yuuri's face to see if he really was being honest with him and sighed, “Alright.”
“Great!” Yuuri's face brightened as he stood beside Wolfram and offered his arm, “Shall we take a stroll outside?”
Wolfram stared at the offered arm, “What's that supposed to be?”
Yuuri took Wolfram's hand and placed it at the crook, “You put it there. You know, just incase you might trip on your dress or something.”
“Why don't we just make it simpler? I change and we don't have to do this - arm thing.”
Yuuri pulled him to the door, “Okay, let's go. We need to cool someone's head off.”
The night air was fresh and crisp and it helped ease Wolfram's tension a bit. He sighed as he closed his eyes and leaned his head against Yuuri.
“Are you okay?” Yuuri asked.
“Yeah. I just can't believe this happened to me.”
“Well, that's what you get for trusting Anissina. Why did you agree to help her anyway?”
“That's not important,” Wolfram denied.
“Well, it must have been important for you to actually do something so dangerous.”
“She said it wasn't dangerous.”
“And you believed her?”
Wolfram shrugged.
“You're more gullible than I thought.” Yuuri said, waiting for a feisty come-back from Wolfram and was surprised to find none. “Wow, you're really bummed out about this, huh?”
“Bummed out?”
“You know, sad, depressed…”
“Anyone would be, Yuuri. I wanted to be…” he sighed and let the sentence hang. “And now, I'm reduced to nothing but a laughingstock.”
“Nothing? Is that what you think you are now?” Yuuri took hold of Wolfram's shoulders and stared into his deep emerald eyes and felt like he was going to drown in it, “Just because you became like this, doesn't mean you are nothing, Wolfram. Never think like that, okay?” as he gathered him in his arms.
Wolfram didn't know how he felt that instant. It was a mixture of surprise, disbelief and near-euphoria. It was so good to be in Yuuri's embrace and felt like he was going to melt in his arms. Just like this, he thought, I never want this moment to end. When he was in Yuuri's arms, it didn't seem so bad being in the form he was currently in and everything was right with the world. It just… feels… so… nice. “Yuuri.”
“Let's sit down over there,” Yuuri said pointing to the fountain.
“Okay,” Wolfram responded, still lightheaded from the unexpected hug. As they sat down he leaned against his fiance's shoulder and continued to listen to Yuuri's soothing voice talking something about dementia or distillation, or something like that. Wolfram couldn't really know, because as soon as his head touched Yuuri's shoulder he was starting to fall asleep.
glitter-graphics.com“…it's weird, you know, since Shin Makoku and Earth are totally different places - dimensions even, the constellations still look the same, though, I'm not really an expert on these things. I mean, they look the same, I think, but I still have yet to locate the big dipper and the small dipper…do you know what they are, by the way?” when Yuuri didn't hear a reply from his companion, he turned to see and found him sleeping peacefully against his shoulder. Yuuri smiled at the sight.
“Wolfram,” he whispered but his sleeping companion didn't budge. Oh well, now that he's lighter, I can carry him to his room, he thought as he picked him up and brought Wolfram to his own quarters. He lay him down on the bed carefully and kept staring at him as he wondered if Wolfram would agree to stay like this forever. He chuckled, he would never agree to that, not in a million years! He caressed the prince's face.
“Your Majesty! What do you think you're doing?” came a familiar voice.
Yuuri looked up to see a shocked Gunter in the doorway. The Maou jumped up from the bed, “I wasn't going to do anything to him. I swear!”
“You better, not until after your wedding day,” Gunter said sternly as he escorted His Majesty out of Wolfram's room.
“I don't think he's still gonna be in that body, by that time. Uh - that came out wrong. What I really meant -”
“Your Majesty, don't fall in-love with Wolfram in his female form. You'll just complicate things.”
“What do you mean? Wolfram's still Wolfram whether he's a boy or as a really cute girl.”
“Your Majesty!” Gunter warned then sighed when Yuuri mumbled an apology. “Don't you realize that it kills him to be a woman? If you fall in-love with him now, it would be much harder for him to return to his original body.”
“Why would it be hard for him? I don't see what it -”
“Because he wants you to be happy. And if he sees that you're happier with him this way then it might make it more difficult for him to decide.”
Yuuri looked down as he realized what Gunter meant. “Oh.”
Gunter put his hand on His Majesty's shoulder, “Please think about what I said, okay?”
Yuuri nodded and went into his room. As he lay in bed he thought about Gunter's words, Because he wants you to be happy... it resounded in his head as he slipped into slumber.
glitter-graphics.comThe next two days were hard for Wolfram. He had utmost difficulty handling his sword which seemed heavier than he remembered it to be plus adding to the complexity would be the dress. He couldn't understand why women actually wanted to wear anything so uncomfortable and so restricting. The third day proved to be even more of a challenge for him when they were gathered in the drawing room discussing about an uproar in a nearby human territory.
“It seems that most of the trouble happens at night. These thugs break in to people's homes but they don't seem to take anything,” Gwendal informed them.
“It appears our friends enjoy wreaking havoc,” Gunter remarked.
“They're tearing the town apart and the town officials can't seem to capture them. It's either they're too smart or there's just too many of them -” Gwendal continued.
“Let's just hope that it's because they're too many,” Conrad pointed out.
“Well, they can't be smart for starting trouble with apparently no good reason,” Gunter countered.
Conrad nodded, “True.”
“So far, since this riot started four days ago, only one person was hurt who was knocked unconscious when he went to investigate the noise in their kitchen. No one was kidnapped either,” stated their informant. “Now the townsfolk are terrified to go out of their houses. They don't even feel safe inside of their own homes anymore, scared that eventually these ruffians might actually start killing people once they've gotten tired of their old pattern.”
“Then what could be their motive?” Conrad thought aloud.
Gwendal sighed, “Ah, who knows. Maybe they are just dim-witted and have nothing better to do with their pathetic lives but to torment other people.”
“Then we must go and investigate!” Yuuri proclaimed.
Conrad smiled at his godson, “Just what I was thinking, Your Majesty.”
“Then we must leave at once before they stir up anymore ruckus,” Wolfram declared.
They all turned to look at Wolfram as awkward silence filled the big drawing room. There was no brave soul who could tell that he wasn't allowed to go this time.
“What? Why are you all looking at me like that?” he asked transferring his gaze from one person to another.
Finally, Conrad spoke up, “We, Wolfram?”
“Did I stutter or mispronounce it? Yes, I said we.”
Conrad looked at his other male companions hoping that some other brave soul, other than himself, could muster up the courage to tell his younger brother - or sister - that he could not join them, but everyone was avoiding his eyes. He sighed. Very well, he thought. “Wolfram, this is going to be dangerous. I don't think these people would be willing to talk with us and we might be forced to use brute force to deal with them,” Conrad said, laying down the truth as gently as possible, “We're just worried that you might get hurt in the process -”
“Are you implying that I will be a liability to the group?”
“Heck no!” Gwendal's voice boomed, “We would never imply that. What Conrad really means is that you can't go,” he said bluntly.
“But I always accompany Yuuri in times like these,”
“Wolfram, don't worry about His Majesty. We will guard Yuuri with our lives,” Conrad asserted.
He raised a brow, “That's not what I'm worried about. He'll probably start flirting with every woman and every good-looking man the moment he lays a foot on that town.”
Yuuri groaned. “Wolfram, not this again!” he whined.
“Yes, Yuuri, this again.” He turned to Gwendal whose face was twisted into a scowl that was even meaner than his usual. “Oh, and I am going!” and stormed out of the room. The loud bang of the door seemed to resonate in the silence.
“Hmm…” Gunter said thoughtfully as he stared at the door where Wolfram just exited, “The spoiled brat strikes again.”
glitter-graphics.comRegardless of Cheri's incessant pleas to Wolfram to stay behind, telling him to let the “men” do all the work, he still insisted on going.
“What are you saying mother? That I am not man enough?” he asked.
Cheri's gaze at him traveled from head to foot, “Not being a man enough would be an overstatement, Wolf dear. You are not even a man!”
He groaned as he continued towards the front yard where the horses were prepared for departure and widened his steps. He was now more confident about his strides ever since he changed back into his old uniform. As mounted his horse, Cheri persisted, “But Wolfram, you're just breaking in on your new body. Things might be different -”
“Mother, don't worry about me. I assure you, I am the same Wolfram you have known,”
“Oh believe me, I know. You're still as stubborn, as spoiled -”
“Good-bye, Mother”
“Please do be careful,” Cheri said worriedly as she watched Wolfram leave with the rest. I just have this nagging feeling that something's going to go wrong, just call it a mother's instinct.
