The Doors/Jim Morrison still (as of 2009) exert an influence on todays artists. If you want to start a band with themes of societal alienation, angst, anti materialism - then this band is a good place to start. And 'The End' while an easy target for many of today's smart ass critics (who cannot point to a parallel in the present) remains one of the defining moments - one of those tracks (like 'Tomorrow Never Knows') that transferred rock from pop to art. And 'Apocalypse Now' did not make this song; this song made 'Apocalypse Now'.
