blog post New Rogue Wave Record: Permalight
Posted in News on Nov 18, 2009 at 7:51 PM
hey. i know it's been a long time. but we're back and up to operating on almost complete body functionality. we're feeling up up up up up.

and why?

we've spent most of this year working on our new record called permalight. after all the trials and tribulations, we're happy to say the record is complete and will be released through brushfire records on march 2, 2010. it was recorded with the ever-so-talented dennis herring in oxford, mississippi. as i mentioned several months back, this record promises to be a more visceral kind of album. so make sure you're wearing some good shoes.

once the record is out next year, extensive touring of the US and beyond will follow. i can't tell you how excited we are to get back out on the road next year and start playing all of these new songs live. kind of forgotten how much we miss being able to play.

well that's it for now. we can't wait to share the record with you! i know march is kind of a long time from now. but time moves pretty fast. pretty soon you will be saying you can't believe christmas is already over, you just got finished digesting your thanksgiving chocolate cranberry duck sauce. and then before you know it, it's march.

stay tuned.

blog post Alive And Well
Posted in News on Jun 30, 2009 at 11:02 PM
Although it may seem as though we have disappeared into the ether, don't fret! We are still here and working very hard on our new record. It does not yet have a title, but that will be coming pretty soon (you can even send us some ideas on MySpace if you feel like it). We have been recording in Oxford, Mississippi since April and we are just about ready to start mixing.

The reason it has taken us so long is that after I injured my neck last fall, I knew that if I was even able to keep this band together, it was really important that we try new things in the studio (my hand is still sort of numb, so I had to re-work how I play guitar and other instruments). As we have found out, this takes time! But we are really excited to share this new record with you and it is my hope that it will be something you guys are into.

What does it sound like? Hmm. That is hard to say at this point. But I do know that I used to feel the weight of the world on my shoulders when we were recording the last couple of records and this time we are just having fun. Yah, the record sounds, for lack of a better word, fun. Our records have traditionally been sort of boring with respect to the shaking of the booty, so we have tried this time to make a more body-moving album. Boom boom boom. It's not all dance party USA or anything, but it promises to be more rhythmic for sure.

Our loving record label is telling me we are shooting for a release date of early next year. So, I'm hoping that means we will be touring this spring. We'll be sure to keep you posted.

blog post D Tour: Pat Spurgeon Documentary
Posted in News on Feb 18, 2009 at 5:43 AM
Following the initial success Pat Spurgeon's kidney transplant 13 years ago and the subsequent transplant failure, a new documentary, "D tour" is in the works that chronicles Pat's search for a living organ donor.

The film reflects on Pat's choice to keep touring while working toward the band's goals, the absolute need to perform dialysis daily, and the focus on his health being top priority while on the road. At an even deeper level, D tour addresses issues with the healthcare system, the lack of affordable insurance, the importance of organ donation, and much, much more.

D tour also features live performances from Ben Gibbard (Death Cab for Cutie), Nada Surf, Ryan Miller, John Vanderslice, The Moore Brothers, and of course, Rogue Wave.

Directed by Jim Granato, the film is a labor of love both creatively and financially. A brand new song by Rogue Wave (with Japonize Elephants) called "Positive Hero Worship" is a free download to anyone who donates to the film at www.dtourmovie.com.

To find out more about the film, see the trailer, and find out how to become an organ donor, visit www.dtourmovie.com.
