241 Miles From Home (written Nov. 16th)

I haven't seen Los Angeles on a road sign in a little over two months and we all just erupted into screams of triumphant laughter as we are only a short 4 hours from home now… Home for real this time. It's 4:55pm, I'm cuddled in the back of the van with a purple blanket, we're just outside Las Vegas and the sky looks dark and brooding. But the lights of that shell station with the slot machines were bright and cheery. I only lost five bucks this time…(eight if you count the black jack machine in that other gas station. I choose not to count that, thanks. ) I feel like celebrating and it's only fitting that it's Friday night. J

I feel oddly like we've come to the end of summer camp or something. It makes me want to write a speech to say at the farewell dinner… something along the lines of "nobody puts Baby in the corner" but I don't have the choreography figured out yet. And we don't actually have a farewell dinner, other than Arby's….So I'll settle for talking to You. That amazing You that is a bunch of different things for me; an audience member, a friend, a diary, a judge, a home. You choose to come here and pay attention to what I have to say, and give Your two cents and basically just fill up all this empty space with wonderful, wonderful You.
The past year has been a whirlwind, and so much of it is strange and surreal, but it all sits very close to my heart and I'm constantly reminding myself to enjoy this beautiful ride. I know I have a knack for getting all heady about everything, but I can't tell you how incredible it is to have been thinking about all this for forever and ever, and now it's coming to life. Like that séance scene in Beetlejuice where Kathrine O'hara's character gets the wedding clothes of the two ghosts and at first the clothes are laying on the table empty-and then they fill up with life. Well, actually they fill up with green versions of Gina Davis and Alec Baldwin, but that's beside the point. It's all strange and wonderful, none the less.
We actually hear this music on the radio. Like, fuh real, doh. And it's actually STILL happening. And it's starting to happen more often! Little Voice is in stores in Japan! People know the words to this music in places I've never been before! We have shared stages with some of my favorite artists in the world. What the EFF?! I've been offered my own flavor of Ben and Jerry's! I'm calling it CaramelandBananareilles.
(False. Stay with me, people.)
I just want to take time and acknowledge. So many people are working very hard to give us a fair shot…I'm so grateful. And I also want to give so much love to my incredible band mates and road warriors. They are truly the glue that makes this whole sticky thing work. We have so much fun together, even when we hate each other…and I wouldn't change a thing. Except for all those times we stayed in shitty hotels. And all the times they are CONVINCED they're right and I'm not. But then again, they learned that from me. I love you boys.
I'm incredibly lucky and honored to have been offered a chance to share music in my life and this lovely world. Thank You so so much for taking part in that.
Goodnight, lovely world.
I'm going home.
