hello!

major flowers in the cacti garden ~ love this time of year! they are amazing. :)

we are working on little touch-ups for the main site, little things here and there. just found out the contact page isn't working properly, whoops!, not sure how long that's been acting up... but it should be fixed soon. and we are adding the new Anamnesis videos to the video section too.

the Wandering Planets Tour is tootling along, it's been great. this tour feels even more relaxed than last year. if that is even possible. it's nice. probably because i'm spending a lot more time by myself on stage. it gets lonely sometimes but i'm enjoying it too. looking forward to the band shows in Show Low, AZ in july. it should be rockin! contemplating getting a new dress for these shows... i love my black and olive dress but it might be nice to switch it up. hmmm... we'll see.

i can't wait until Imogen Heap comes out with her new album, been following her on Twitter. i love her. i also have been loving all the new albums that have come out this year: DM, Tori, Color Theory's EP, which funny enough came out the same day as Anamnesis! how cool is that?! i've also been loving my old favorite Agnes Milewski. she is so awesome, i would love to see her in concert (have to get back to Austria asap!) oh, and we saw Flight of the Conchords in concert: completely hysterical! it was so funny and musically rockin.

anyhoo, we are looking into a few more dates to add to the tour which hopefully i can post soon. it will probably be in the mid-west (north-ish).

the stew is staring to bubble... already... lot's of tasty things are starting to come together, as they always do. ;)

cacti snug,
s

New Reviews!
New reviews for Anamnesis! You can read them in full at the link.

Shauna Burns has created a haunting masterpiece with her five-song EP titled Anamnesis. Each track builds on the next one giving fans a wonderful taste of what Shauna has to offer. What is especially appealing about Anamnesis is Shauna's dynamic voice that will instantly melt your heart when you hear her sing. Another strong aspect about Shauna's Anamnesis is the incorporation of piano that helps fuse a unique sound. If you are a fan of Tori Amos and other powerful female Singer/Songwriters like Tori, then Shauna Burns will be a welcome addition to this list of great female artists. The EP is an achievement of one's vision. Shauna will mesmerize you the very moment you hear her sing. Anamnesis gets a well-deserved A+ - Go out and buy this CD already, you will not be disappointed!' - Isaac Davis Jr, Junior's Cave

The ethereal feel to the opening track on Shauna Burns's five-song EP, Anamnesis, is genuinely uplifting, with a warmth and richness brought to it by Burns that many artists only dream of possessing... 'Wind,' my favorite track on the CD, was a standout that brought out the best in Burns's voice, which here sounds simultaneously soft and powerful... Overall, Anamnesis is beautiful work, and Shauna Burns does the singer-songwriter genre proud. I wish there were more artists like her working today. - JC Chute, The Celebrity Cafe

On this five song EP Shauna Burns reminds us of her haunting and beautiful vocals and how easy it is to be entranced by the musical web she weaves with a fascinating blend of folk, Celtic and rock music. Each song seamlessly leads to the next inviting you in and becoming intrinsically connected to one another. Before you know it the music stops and you wonder where the time went, it is like a bat of an eyelash, a spec in the universe that came and went. Even though Anamnesis is a short journey Shauna Burns makes the best of her time once again and delivers the goods in convincing fashion. One can only hope that this is a precursor to something bigger right around the corner. - Keith 'MuzikMan' Hannaleck

And remember our friend Brian Hazard of the awesome Color Theory? (He was featured on Thistle Glen #25) Well, 'If It's My Time To Go', one of his brilliant songs off The Thought Chapter, won a Lennon Award in the second phase of the John Lennon Songwriting Contest! This is a huge deal and I'm so happy for him I could just scream ~ I think I will! Congratulations Brian!

Interviews, Reviews and Thistle Glen #27
Below are excerpts of interviews and reviews of Anamnesis, to read them in full click on the links following the quotes. Thank you to Russell, Spiral, Amy, Brooke and Anne for the beautiful kindness! And there is a Thistle Glen below too!

Anamnesis Interviews
'I really liked the look of Anamnesis, you have to work a little bit to get inside (and to pronounce it!) but I wanted a word that would connect the idea of memories and senses. When I read the classic definition it just felt right.' - Exclusive Magazine Interview - by Russell A. Trunk

'Shauna surrounds herself in the studio with the familiar scents and sights of home, where she composes most of her music. In front of the Yamaha C7 grand piano at Spiral she places photos of loved ones, pets and places. Shauna believes that every song has its own unique frequency... a frequency that is partially formed through her own creative process and partially transmitted through her, as a property that belongs to the song itself.' - Spiral Studios Interview

Anamnesis Reviews
'We here at Collected Sounds have been following Shauna Burns for years. What’s really cool is to see an artist evolve from record to record. In my review of her last record, The Moon and Fire Circle I mentioned that her songs sounded similar to each other. But when it’s gorgeous I don’t mind. However, on this EP, she really stepped out of her comfort zone. These songs are not samey at all. I think you’ll like this one even if you loved her previous records, it’s different but no less enchanting. I mean, it’s still Shauna right? Oh and did I mention her hottie new look? Yeah.' - Amy Lotsberg, Collected Sounds

'Anamnesis, which means recollection, is a five-song EP that offers an introspection into the five physical senses. Marketed as sequel to her previous release, The Moon And The Fire Circle, Anamnesis is an excellent achievement and a wonderful continuation. Fans of Tori Amos, Kate Bush and Amy Lee of Evanescence may find similarities but Burns fuses cascading piano and a dynamic voice to come across as slightly more uplifting while remaining genuinely sincere. There is a semblance of broodiness and the lush arrangements to be expected of fans of her peers, but Shauna Burns stands ably on her own and this EP is a definite five-star recommendation. Give it some alone time and immerse yourself in it and realize just how special Anamnesis is.' - Brooke Horrocks, SonicJive.com Music Reviews

'The creative process of Shauna Burns is fascinating, and her newest EP, Anamnesis, which means 'recollection' or 'remembrance,' is set to hit the music market on April 12, 2009. Though this is a short collection of works, Anamnesis can be seen as having depth and layers, and develop a more structured and contemplative sound, complete with various other instruments and electronic loops added by producer Steve Lemmon. Some things are just sweet when they are short. This particular EP happens to be one of those.' - L. Anne Carrington

Welcome to Thistle Glen episode 27 - Anamnesis - Anamnesis is out now! Let's chat about it! Grab the new EP on Shauna Burns.com, listening party going on right now, new photos, site updates and a very special download treat. New press and The Wandering Planets Tour is starting soon. blog post So tell me...

Current Mood: mellow
Hi!

While recording Anamnesis my friend and awesome-all-around-gal Kiley Astle played violin on the track "So Tell Me..." and absolutely blew us away. Kiley's violin took this song to another level and I'm so honored to have her magic contribute to this song. You can listen to it on her MySpace page (http://www.myspace.com/kbaviolin) before I put the song up in all the usual places. I can't thank Kiley enough for her friendship and support ~ You rock my world! :)

I'm working on my gigantic to-do list... it's fun but making my brain hurt. Oh, it's all good. It's exciting to finally get all the treats out. I wanted to record a new Thistle Glen last week but I just crashed. Hopefully going to get it done today or tomorrow. Feels like it's been forever!

I'm still completely overwhelmed by the love coming in from the music, photos, album cover reveal and the Anamnesis collage video ~ the support is very much appreciated. :)

Okay, Tour News: We are still getting information about exact times for some of the shows, it's a little weird with festivals sometimes and we're trying to nail details down. But if you have any questions please email me: shauna at shaunaburns dot com

It's looking like I'll be doing some tasty solo shows this summer but all those shows will have James on some percussion (so I'm not all by myself! ha!) and in Maryland I'm so excited that Caroline Kemper, Ms. Harpist-Extraordinaire, is going to be joining me! Now this is going to be awesome. But don't worry, we have the band for some shows too (like the Utah Ren Fest, Show Low, AZ and a festival in Phoenix later this year). It will be a good mix, and I'm sure some other dates will pop up, they always do. :)

Oh, and we've fixed the Star Chart Radio on the site ~ it's brand new and much easier to navigate. A big thank you to Benno for that help. We're also fixing up a few other things which will be revealed soon.

Talk to you soon!

desert mist,
s
