One of the classic crossover rave moments from the late 80's - nowadays it all sounds very synthetic, but at the time the electronic sax and the chirping drum machines were the closest most people in the UK would ever get to Hawaii. Gerald Simpson AKA A Guy Called Gerald started working on the track shortly before he parted ways with Graham Massey and rest of the band. The completed release hit the charts aroud the same time as his own iconic 'Voodoo Ray', there was a fair amount of legal wrangling over whether they had the right to release the track without his permission and in the end the affair was settled out of court.
This track was always great for nugget sized factoids regarding its clever name....

I know, I only mentioned Justice a couple of edits ago, but they've worked marvels on this remix. Chopping up and rearranging the vocal to deliver a perfect dance/rock moment that's turning up *everywhere* right now.
Can you believe that Norman Cook has been releasing tracks as Fatboy Slim for 10 years? Well It's Time for a greatest hits album and some of the biggest names in dance music have crafted remixes of classic Fatboy moments. And this is by far my favourite, epic acidic breaks, keeping true to the original and delivering masses of dancefloor appeal. Also look out for the Beastie Boys remix of Praise You, and the hugely entertaining video for 'That Old Pair Of Jeans'
Changing diapers with boys is different than changing them for girls, when I used to change Skye it wasn't altogether uncommon for her to mess up the changing table by letting loose without the benefit of an absorbent barrier to catch it all. However, due the to extra equipment that comes with boys it becomes altogether more dangerous - you become a potential target for his bladder relief.Videogames have however taught me to perform complex operations under pressure and extreme circumstances - i.e. in the dark , sleep deprived and with a baby crying. They've honed my reactions to let me react to, defend against and dodge incoming projectiles, whether they be rockets or a squirt of pee.So, if you play games you're going to be a step ahead of everyone else when you get kids....
Just by observing Skye you can figure out what she thinks of music.....The Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots : Skye has started singing along to this in the car, and by singing I mean this is the first record where she's actually picking up the tune. I've played this to her so many times recently that I found myself singing it to her as a lullabye.Donna Summer - I Feel Love : she likes this and runs back and forth waving her hand up and down and bobbing her head, even moreso if I play the Plump DJ's bootleg - Donna Kebab.Aaron Jae - WTF : One of the mixes on the Beat tour, she likes dancing around to this in her diaper and shaking her booty, hands on the hips, sticking her bottom out and shakin' what her mama gave her. DJ Nerstylist - Quiet Time : Another Beat mix, she sat down, played with lego for 5 minutes then got up and somehow managed to turn on a thrash metal show on the satellite radio. So, not her thing I guess.Rennie Pilgrem - London Voodoo : dances around to the beats with her hands in the air, then when the vocals come in she climbed up to the turntables, stopped it and scratched the vocal back and forth for a bit before starting it again. I think she's saying that the record needs less breakdown and more scratching.Les Rythymes Digitales - Jacques Your Body (Make Me Sweat) : She tries to dance in her car seat, bopping her head from one side to the other and kicking her legs. No surprises here then.Beth Orton - Comfort of Strangers : Fell asleep.
With baby #2 we've been comparing everything against baby #1Orion is a more relaxed sleeper, we couldn't even think about putting Skye down when she got home, but Orion is easy to comfort.Orion is feeding more than Skye did, he didn't drop any weight over the first few days. Orion's poop is stinkier, Skye's early poops smelled like caramel.Orion is stronger tha skye was, especially when grasping things.Orion has big hands and frequently sucks his fingers, skye never did this.oh yeah, Orion is a Dude
Mother and baby are doing well, the birth was easy, the midwife lived up to her reputation as a miracle worker. The boombox was playing the K&D sessions for most of the labour, and during the night I've already changed one nasty diaper. I'm home right now so I can pick up Skye and prepare her for meeting her brother.
We were in room 13 at Alta Bates, so we narrowly evaded a numerological catastrophe by having him before midnight and avoiding the 6 + 6 + 06 date that all those movie posters are reminding us of (we would have had bonus points for Amy's birthdate being June 1966).
It's everywhere right now, some people are even using phrases like 'the new Daft Punk' - I'm not sure that's the case, but this is a top tune regardless. Look out for the Edison Remix with school kids singing along with the chorus.
Of course, if I was playing junglist this would be getting peak time play. There are a lot of awful records built around spanish guitar, this breaks that poor run and brings us a DnB monster with big room potential.
Grandadbob have been releasing a steady stream of loungey house tunes on Southern Fried Records (Norman Cook's record label). This latest release is just beatiful, I find myself rewinding it all the time, of course I'm no longer playing junglist, so by rewind I mean I rewind the radio show to listen to the track again. Silky vocals cascading over retro beats make this unmissable.
