It is apt that Son of the Sun hail from Western New York. Their music is a convergence of a wide variety of styles. From rock and roll to country with a splash of soul, it all seems to come crashing together in a Phil Spector Wall of Sound.
Originally conceived by multi-instrumentalist Joseph Stocker and guitarist/vocalist Zak Ward, Son of the Sun has fleshed out their already considerably lush sound with the addition of Jeremy Franklin on guitar, Steve Matthews on bass, and Brandon Delmont on drums. What was once a muted, sparse take on rock music has become a grandiose love letter to the driving heart of Kinks style harmonies and Velvet Underground guitars.
If there is a direct correlation between hard work and success, Son of the Sun should be hitting substantial notoriety shortly. Their music paints a vintage storyline of universal relatability that cannot be ignored and Upstate New York is paying close attention. The band is making the leap into the spotlight just as they set-up their newest release “The Happy Loss” coming in Spring of 2009.
