“They say she got the ills” (The Ills. 2009). SuNn was born and raised mainly on the westside of Baltimore City, MD. When she was not trying to be the first woman in the NBA (not the WNBA), she enjoyed singing, dancing, and rhyming. Entering many talent shows, she always left the crowd standing on their feet wanting more. At the age of 15 she would record songs (adlibs and all) on a karoke machine that she begged for. Soon after, she would spend her first few hours in a friend of a friends studio in his garage. But music was more to SuNn than a dance or paycheck. Music was an escape to a world far away from the troubles of everyday. She was a “hip hop backpacker” carrying music in any form possible (tapes, cds, mp3 player and speakers). Its no wonder she always comes with a new creative style on every track. There are many sides to SuNn and this is just the beginning. Soon she expects to improve her guitar, drum, piano, and dj'n skillis.
SuNn is influenced by so many great artists. Just to name a few from different genres; I -Wayne, Linkin Park, Lil Wayne, Bilal, India Arie, Gregory Isaacs, Luciano, Jill Scott, Chrisette Michele, Jay Z, Rakim, KRS One, Lupe Fiasco, & Canibus but the list goes on and on. Some of her favorite artists are Bob Marley, Common, Nas, Wu Tang, Outkast and the Fugees. Its SuNns goal to collab witth some of these artists one day.
It is SuNns mission to prove that you can be yourself, have your own style and still make it in the music business. “Leader of the new school” is just a part of who SuNn is. She has her hands in many pots and projects right now. She’s a MC, Hip-Hop & Soul Non Classifiable Artist, Producer, Poet, & Entrepreneur among more to come.
