MySpace PlaylistGig's Picks... --Houses of the Holy, Led Zepplin, A band well ahead of their time, in fact timeless is the better word to describe the outcome of most of their songwriting.
--Curtis Loew, Lynyrd Skynyrd. This story hits me at home. I used to visit the town drunk when I was a like 11 yrs old. He didn’t play any instruments but he had stories that were unbelievable, that’s when I started getting into writing.
--Crazy Bitch, Buck Cherry. Hell what guy doesn’t like that song!!!
--Willie & Waylon, all of it. As a kid my dad and his friends used to sit around and pick n grin to these guys tunes…. It was a time in life I will never forget.
--Hank Jr, You just gotta love some Hank Jr. He makes it alright to show up drunk! Ha!
Michael Hough’s Picks…. --Boys Are Back In Town Thin Lizzy “Can’t get enough of all those guitars, guitars, guitars!”
--Rockin’ Into The Night .38 Special “I can still remember those summer nights, livin’ that song while it was blaring on the car radio”
--Who Wouldn’t Wanna Be Me Keith Urban “It’s one of my favorite ‘it’s great to be alive’ songs”
--Free Ride Edgar Winter Group “Great guitar riff, classic ‘Strat’ tone, killer vocal harmonies…and the spacey synth stuff!”
--Boots On Randy Houser “Randy’s a ‘brother in arms’, bring the ‘rock’ back to country”
Scooby’s Picks --Travelin' Man- Bob Seger "This song makes the hair on my neck stand up."
--Life in the Fastlane- Eagles "I love this one, but it makes me drive alot faster."
--Back in Black- AC/DC "It doesnt get any more rock and roll than that."
--Shooting Star- Bad Company " Paul rogers makes me moist."
--Loud- Big and Rich "if its too loud, go home."
David Lee’s Picks --China Grove - The Doobie Brothers
"The quintessential rock song!
--Green Grass and High Tides (live) - The Outlaws
"20 minutes plus of some of the greatest guitar work ever - and what a drum solo (remember those?)"
--She's Country - Jason Aldean"A good indication of how yesterday's rock is today's country"
--I Need You - Lynyrd Skynyrd
"one of the most underated love songs ever - soulful!"
--What's Your Name - Lynyrd Skynyrd
"straight up, in your face southern boogie!"
Keith’s Picks --Rolling Stones--"Gimme Shelter", If the first few bars of this song doesn't give you chills, check your pulse.
--Led Zeppelin--"No Quarter", From "The Song Remains The Same",--The Hammer of the Gods shows no mercy.
--ZZ Top--"Mexican Blackbird"---It's impossible to pick the Reverend's best material, it's all great, but back in the day, on road trips, me and my friends would listen to this track over and over and over........
--Lynyrd Skynyrd--"Workin' for MCA / I ain't the one"-- First two tracks off their live album,"One more from the Road", wow, the energy is off the charts on these two, the term, "Southern Rock", begins and ends with this great band.
--AC/DC--"Down Payment Blues"-- Quite possibly the best Rock-n-roll/ Blues band ever. Great riffs, great lyrics and melody. You hear people say that AC/DC plays simple music, if it is so simple, how come nobody else can do it?
Cody’s Picks --Blues Traveler - "Stand" - Energetic punchy groove with wailing harp that only Blues Traveler can deliver. I love the lyric "Every challenge could have paradise behind it". so true.
--Warren Haynes (Gov't Mule/Allman Bros.) - "Soulshine" - There are a million and five different recordings of this song, and all of them are good.
--Joe Walsh - "Funk #49" - One of the coolest bass lines ever written. This song was a big part of my wanting to play bass. Try to listen to this song and not bob your head..
--Aerosmith - "Rag Doll" - Pumpin' rock & roll at its finest!
--The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band - "Fishin' In The Dark" - I grew up on these guys. I love their blend of bluegrass & country.
