blog post TOP Ten CANADIAN... a new weekly list series.

Current Mood: fuzzy
I've been inspired to create a weekly series of Top Ten Canadian playlist which I deem fully editable at any time. In fact, I'm kicking off the TTC Series with my Top Ten Canadian Bands (at this very moment). I must qualify this list with said parenthetic qualifier because there are so many amazing musicians, acts, side projects, collectives, supergroups, superconnected collectives;) that I simply cannot narrow my list down to ten without feeling horrible about the noteworthy omissions.

With that written, I give you my Top Ten Canadian Bands At This Very Moment (T.T.C.B.A.T.V.M.):

10.(tie) Plants & Animals (montreal) / Bell Orchestre (montreal)
9. (tie) Patrick Watson (montreal) & Holy F*ck (toronto) -- > this is cheating, i know... deal with it!
8. the Arts & Crafts solo artists & off-shoots (which can be a whole, separate list) including: kevin drew, brendan canning, amy millan, jason collett
7. Feist! (via vancouver) ... omitted from #8 because she's majorly major now
6. Stars (montreal)
5. Wolf Parade (montreal)
4. the New Pornographers (vancouver, b.c.) - west coast supergroup-ness
3. METRIC! (toronto) hell ya! please do yourselves a favor and Go See Them Live... now!
2. Arcade Fire (montreal) so moving
1. Broken Social Scene (toronto) soooo moving

wow... what an amazing collection!
with the exception of patrick watson and brendan canning (the soloist), I think i've seen each band at least once in the past year or so.

one quick note: I am excluding emily haines (the soloist) from this group because i think of her work as solo work than band work... otherwise, it'd be top five for sure!
