The Uglysuit recently wrapped up a whirlwind cross-country/cross-continental tour that ended with a leg of dates on the West Coast with The Sea and Cake. Along the way, the band recorded a couple exclusive performances, one of which is on display in this excellent "Decomposed" video session posted on Stereogum right
HERE. In these stripped down performances of
“Chicago,” “Brownblue’s Passing,” and
“Iceland,” the normally six-piece band reveals its ability to mutate into something more compact and stark, and as the piece says, “…it deepens your understanding of the group, adding a depth to material you thought you knew pretty well.” We concur. Check it out and feel free to embed the videos onto your own page.

For the past 11 years, the Hideout of Chicago, IL, has been holding some killer Block Parties. We’re not talking about the ones that include a couple of your neighbors setting up a card table and keg in the middle of your street while the neighborhood kids run around playing football and jumping up and down in one of those bouncy Moonwalks. No, those block parties are awesome too, but just not the kind we’re talking about.
We were more hinting at the 12th Annual Hideout Block Party, which we are excited to announce will include a live performance from the newish kids on the Quarterstick block, The Uglysuit! Held on September 20 and 21, the Block Party will also feature performances from Neko Case, The New Pornographers, Ratatat, and Black Mountain (and others). Additional details can be found at the Hideout website (www.hideoutchicago.com).
Currently on tour across the Midwest, The Uglysuit will be stopping by KDHX in St. Louis this afternoon to play live in their studio and perform stripped down songs from their upcoming debut album. The session will broadcast tomorrow Saturday, June 14th at 7pm CST. St. Louis natives can tune in to the radio frequency 88.1 FM to listen and the rest of us can stream over the world wide web at KDHX's website.
The Uglysuit’s remaining tour dates:
6/13 - The Pageant, St. Louis, MO - with Iron and Wine
6/14 - The Hideout, Chicago, IL
6/15 - Newport Music Hall, Columbus, OH - with Iron and Wine
7/12 - Belle Isle Brewery, Oklahoma City, OK
7/25 - D-Fest, Tulsa, OK
In our quest to get out the good word about new Quarterstick signees The Uglysuit, we thought "Why not just let the music preach the good word?" So in lieu of explaining every last detail about the Oklahoma City natives and their fresh, infectious, atmospheric sound, we present the debut single from The Uglysuit’s forthcoming self-titled album, out August 19. It just so happens that the song is named after Touch & Go/Quarterstick’s home city, Chicago. Take it from us - no place is better in the summer, and the same goes for this jam.
