Three fast-rising independent singer-songwriters Alexa Wilkinson, Todd Carey, and Jonathan Clay will join forces this spring to “Tri”-headline the “Three of Hearts Tour”, which kicks off on April 21, 2008 and will span 13+ cities along the east coast and across the Midwest. On the east-coast leg, all three artists will play “stripped down” sets with just acoustic guitars and vocals, sharing equal billing throughout the tour and accompanying one another. Carey’s 4-piece band will be showcased as the headlining act in the Midwest leg of the tour.
After meeting through mutual contacts, the three artists discovered they had a lot in common—were independent singer-songwriters who wrote about their emotional experiences and past relationships in a pop/folk/rock style. Says Carey, “We complement each other nicely. Each artist brings something different and rounds out a full package.“
In addition to their complementary songwriting styles, each artist has already had substantial success in their relatively young careers. In just the past year, Wilkinson has had rave reviews on her debut album “Lullaby Appetite” (released July 2007), two songs featured on MTV’s The Hills, numerous TV and radio appearances around the US, and performed on tours with Josh Kelley, Stephen Kellogg & The Sixers, Joshua Radin, and Ingrid Michaelson. She will release her sophomore album “Lions” this summer, and just finished a music video for the single “Vanilla Rain”, which is already receiving substantial radio play prior to the release, including on XM radio (XM Café) and on Yahoo Radio.
Carey has shared the stage and/or billing with several legendary artists including Tom Petty, Maroon 5, Marc Broussard, Jason Mraz, and Josh Kelley. He’s also had notable press in Justine Magazine, Billboard, MTV Online, the Chicago Sun-Times, music placements on MTV’s The Real World, and various other TV spots. In January 2008, Todd Carey became one of the first independent artists to launch a ground-breaking “Pay What You Feel” campaign which allows people to pay $0-10 to download his nationally distributed album. Purchases of $5 or more yield a $1 donation to the Go Green Initiative - an organization that funds educational programs for children about environmental issues. Carey has sold over 2000 albums via this model since the inception in late January ‘08, and the numbers continue to grow. The Three of Hearts tour marks Carey’s first since the campaign began and expects to see plenty of new fans that recently discovered his music. Learn more at www.toddcareymusic.com/paywhatyoufeel.
Clay has had early success with his first album “Whole New Me” (released independently in 2005). His music landed spots in national broadcast reality shows on MTV and WB, indie films and radio shows across the US.
On the “Three of Hearts Tour”, the three will perform solo, as well as accompanying each other at points during their sets. Carey will bring in his full band for the final five shows of the tour.
