Tina Parol is poised to burst onto the music scene with her first single ‘Who’s Got Your Money’, impacting radio May 2009. The 20 year old NYC native started writing songs at age 11, surrounded by a variety of music as diverse as the city she so proudly calls home. Drawing from influences from Madonna and Blondie to the Police and Queen, Tina grew up recording demos and by the age of 18, had enrolled at NYU to study record production and engineering. Raised by immigrant parents from Poland who instilled a strong work ethic in their daughter from day one, Tina was encouraged at a young age to take her musical talents to the next level.
By the end of her freshman year at college Tina had focused all of her energy on her career as an artist, and things quickly fell into place. A manager ended up on her Myspace site and soon, Tina found herself signed by Sylvia Rhone to Universal Motown records.
While writing her album, Tina was inspired both by stories from her past and that of her family’s, filling the record with an eclectic array of emotions. The music truly showcases her incredible talent and diversity as an artist and songwriter. Tracks such as “Going Under" and "I Already Know" cite the intense happiness of love-at-first-sight, while "Crazy" focuses on the pain and uncertainty it can cause. And the heartfelt “What Else Do I Need?" tells the story of her parents' struggles as immigrants, as well as her grandmother's fight to stay alive during World War II.
Set for a summer 2009 release, ‘Shrinking Violet’ is a no holds barred exploration of love and relationships penned almost entirely by the singer/songwriter herself. “I generally respect women who respect themselves and tell it how it is, and that’s what my album aims to do.” In 2008, Tina also lent her songwriting talents to the likes of Britney Spears with the single ‘Rock Boy’, currently an international bonus track on Circus. With a killer mix of funky pop, rock and reggae cultivating her own sound, 2009 promises to see Tina Parol in full bloom.
