So this is the time of year when most of us begin to think about food. Food, glorious food! Sharing a meal can be one of the most enjoyable, satisfying, and even intimate experiences we can share with others. And everyone has their favorites. They can range from the lowly to the sublime. And what about comfort food!?! Comfort foods can be different things to different people. And that’s because real comfort food is like a warm hug. It can be that delightful blend of flavors and aromas that bring to mind those warm evenings sitting at the dinner table with family, or those moments spent cuddling up in a blanket in front of a roaring fire with your favorite chilled dessert. And how about those deliciously succulent home-cooked meals that grandma used to make. Sure, these are clichés to some of us, but the reality is that many of us can appreciate the fact that sometimes when life isn’t too kind, instead of curling up in a fetal position in the middle of the bed with the covers pulled up over our head, we’d prefer to sit in our favorite rocking chair with a big bowl of chicken and dumplings.

So what’s your favorite meal or comfort food? What’s your favorite dessert? What about your favorite ‘scary’ treat? A friend and I have been going back and forth for a bit tantalizing each other with tales of culinary decadence. I’m a southern boy. So when I think about foods that make my palate tingle with anticipation, I think of my favorite meal from the bayou; a huge, steaming bowl of seafood gumbo over steamed rice, a nice, thick, hot slice of toasted Cajun garlic bread, and a tall glass of lemonade ice tea. My favorite guilty pleasure; anything chocolate or chocolate covered. (As long as it doesn’t, and never did have legs). And the food I sneak to get when I don’t want anyone to see? Sardines on saltines. I know. Yuck!
