Yahir Othon Parra was born on March 21, 1979 in Hermosillo, Sonora, the oldest of three brothers and the son of Francisco Javier Parra Othon and Dora.
When Yahir arrives at the casting of “La Academia" (The Academy), he had no idea of the turn of events that his life would take during the future months. As the reality show develops, the audience soon notices the growth of each member of "The Academy". Yahir, being one of the most striking, not only for his attitude, charisma and camaraderie, but also because he demonstrates from the beginning that he has all the tools necessary to reach the finals. This is demonstrated by the fourth place he achieved in the contest. He is one of three students who never leaves the house and therefore has no idea of the phenomenon that is already brewing among the masses.
Since the beginning of this show, both the critics and the public in general were captivated by the presence, delivery and personal style that Yahir brings when he interprets, regardless of the genre- ballads, rancheras, grupero or in English, since each of these styles conquer the audience who always supported him.
Although it was thanks to the reality show "La Academia" (which at that time served as a showcase) to finally get to record their debut album title namesake, the fact is that from an early age Yahir showed a very special taste for music, which he says, "I owe it to my paternal family; my grandfather taught me my first song at seven called “Mi Ranchito" (My Little Ranch). The pair made their first presentation with a mariachi band in a cantina in a town in Sonora, Mexico.
At 17, he has his first experience playing in a bar in Hermosillo, Sonora, which lasts for six months, to then go to sing at a hotel in Tijuana, where he resides until he comes to Mexico City in mid 2002 in order to join "The Academy."
“Yahir”
In 2003 Yahir initiates a very important challenge in his life presenting his first album titled "Yahir", which is produced by Oscar Lopez, one of the greatest producers who also has worked alongside major music stars such as Jose Jose, Thalía, Mijares, Caifanes, Maldita Vecindad and Miguel Mateos, among many others.
This album brought together the likes of composer Armando Manzanero and Juan Luis Jiménez (Presuntos Implicados), who collaborated on the songs "Regresa a mi" and "Yo Soy". Other tracks that make up this album are: Tu piel”, “Ellas”; “Carnaval”, “Noches como esta”, “Si me miras así” and “Alucinado”; this last track positioned itself in the # 1 spot on the popularity lists for several months immediately after it was launched to Radio, which meant Yahir would have a Gold Record-platinum album and more than 250 thousand copies sold in Mexico.
Thanks to his success, he receives the award “LUNA” (granted by The National Auditorium) for the Male Revelation of the Year, the award “OYE” (national award for the best recording in Mexico- granted by the National Academy of Music) For Male Revelation of the Year. He was also nominated for Song of the year and Male Spanish Speaking Artist. At the same time the launch of this album is underway, Yahir participates as protagonist of the Television Azteca soap opera “Enamórate”.
“Otra historia de amor”...
… comienza “La locura”
“Another Love Story”
…the madness begins
"Otra Historia De Amor" ( Another Love Story ) is the beginning of “The Madness”, a new phase in which the prominent ex-student of “La Academia”, who won 4th place and was #1 in the Star Challenge contest “Desafio de Estrellas”, today is one of the most prominent young artists and major selling artists in Mexico since his debut album. This supported by just over 250 thousand copies sold.
So in May 2004, the outstanding performer of "La Locura" returns with a new attitude into the music scene with his second album titled "Otra Historia de Amor", which produces and directs the prominent Emanuelle Ruffinengo, who also worked at the time and produced great music stars, such as Alejandro Sanz, Armando Manzanero, Ana Belen and Cristian Castro, among many others.
This excellent partnership (Yahir-Emanuelle Ruffinengo) results in the album: "Otra Historia de Amor" and it’s first successful promotional single "La Locura", which since its release to radio (May 17, 2004) in Mexico and the United States immediately took over for a period of eight months the #1 spot in radio and at the same time becomes the main theme of the soap opera "Soñarás" (where he’s the protagonist of the story) from TV Azteca.
"Otra Historia de Amor" finally goes on sale in the U.S. and Mexico simultaneously on July 06, 2004. After having imposed a historic Guinness RECORD (for the greatest number of albums signed consecutively – 2852 in a total of eight hour 15 minutes) worldwide and after great success in sales, which it immediately went Gold for more than 50 thousand copies sold and soon becomes a worthy-platinum-album for more than 100 thousand copies sold.
